The Ramos School Playground Project Fund

The Luis A. Ramos Elementary School, in the Allentown School District has an enrollment of approximately 900 students with over 90% of those students’ families living in poverty.  Although the Ramos building is relatively new (constructed in 2010 at 15th and Allen) the playground was installed many years ago for the old Jackson School which had an enrollment of only 300 students.  Ramos students and other students in the neighborhood simply don’t have a suitable playground within walking distance.

The Ramos School Playground FundIn 2014 a group of volunteers, parents, teachers and administrators came together to form the Ramos Playground Committee tasked with goal of refurbishing the old playground and adding an all-new playground to accommodate the 900 Ramos students.

Significant progress has been made since that date with design work funded by the Allentown School District completed and major fundraising underway.  To date $103,000 has been raised for the Playground Project with over $20,000 raised and contributed by the Ramos PTA and $1,700 raised by the students themselves!  The goal of the Ramos School Playground Project Fund is to raise the remaining $32,000 to completely fund the playground and necessary site work so that the playground can be installed in the 2017-2018 school year.
