Allentown, Pa., November 8, 2018— The Eastern PA Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will honor many of the area’s most accomplished fundraisers, volunteers, and donors during the chapter’s 2018 National Philanthropy Day Awards Breakfast. The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation (LVCF) is the lead sponsor of the event that celebrates philanthropy by honoring those making an impact on the quality of life in the region through fundraising and charitable giving.
Bernie Story, LVCF president and CEO, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event that will be held at DeSales University beginning at 8:00 a.m. He will be joined by Andrew Block, MPA, AFP Eastern PA Chapter president to welcome the more than 400 participants.
Both former members of the LVCF Board of Governors, Curtis “Hank” and Joanne Barnette will receive the chapter’s Lifetime Achievement Award for their decades of profound, inspiring, and sustained impact. Joining the AFP chapter in honoring the Barnettes will be West Virginia University President E. In addition, LVCF will honor a Board of Governors member Denise M. Blew, Associate Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, Lehigh University. Denise Blew has been an advocate for the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation since 2003 when she first joined the Board of Governors. In these 15 years she has served as the Foundation’s Board Chair and has led the Finance committee for 9 years. Notably, Ms. Blew helped successfully steer the Foundation through the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. She oversaw a transition to a new investment anager, and she continues to be a steward of the Foundation's growing endowment assets, which is at the core of LVCF’s work. We cannot thank Denise enough for sharing her wealth of knowledge and for her prudent oversight of the Foundation’s assets. As Associate Vice President for Finance and Treasurer at Lehigh University, Ms. Blew manages and directs the University’s treasury and financial administrative areas, including the Controller's Office and the Treasurer's Office. Ms. Blew is a fundholder of the Foundation and a member of our Philanthropist’s Club and President’s Club of the Adams Society. Because of her long-term, substantial commitments to the Foundation and the Lehigh Valley community, LVCF is thrilled to be honoring Denise at National Philanthropy Day.
